The expected physical distance in sugar beet had been reported as 855 kb per 1 cM, with deviations of up to 50-fold2. In RefBeet only 5% of marker pairs showed the expected physical distance (855 kb ± 20%) suggesting strict partitioning of the genome into regions favouring or disfavouring recombination events.
