(a) Thermogravimetric analysis plot of a restacked vermiculite film. (b) XRD shows that the vermiculite film retains its interlayer spacing after heating at 200 °C. The spacing shrinks as the membrane dehydrates from heating for a day at 500 °C, but is restored on rehydration. (c) The proton conductivity of a vermiculite membrane is largely unaffected when dried at 200 °C or annealed at 500 °C for 1 day.
