a) Pansharpened HRSC showing the degrading plateau west of Mawrth Vallis near McLaughlin Crater. Crater B is likely to be a more eroded version of crater A. The presence of mounds within Crater B shows that the mound material formed after the impact event, and the propensity for mounds near this crater to cluster around its edge shows similarities with other mound populations in the region. b) CTX image of linear and curvilinear chasms (pink dashes) at the plateau edge forming mounds; these are likely to be pre-existing fractures that the erosive mechanism(s) that formed the mounds exploited.
