(C) The resulting digital elevation model (DEM), showing the defect as a reduction in enamel thickness. (D) The DEM is read into ImageJ software47,48 where a transect is drawn from one occlusal shoulder to the other to extract 2D coordinates for analysis. (E) Once plotted, the FindPeaks plug-in49 is used to measure maximum defect depth from the occlusal side of the defect (in µm).
