From: Axl alleviates DSS-induced colitis by preventing dysbiosis of gut microbiota

The symptoms of DSS-induced colitis were exacerbated by transfer of feces from Axl−/− mice into WT mice. (a) Mice were exposed to antibiotics for 7 days before FMT, and fecal microbiota was transferred 3 times, followed by administration of 2.5% DSS for 5 days before the sacrifice. (b) Body weights and (c) DAI scores were measured every day during 2.5% of DSS administration for 5 days. (d) The macroscopic appearance of the colon (left panel) and the colon length (right panel) was measured on day 5 after DSS administration. (e) Representative microscopic images (magnification 200 ×) of colon tissues stained with H&E (left panel) and the histological scores (right panel) were evaluated as described in “Materials and methods”. (f) The absolute number of IFNγ-secreting activated Th1 cells was represented as a bar graph. (g) The bacterial loads and (h) the relative numbers of bacteria were determined as described in “Materials and methods”. Significance (*p < 0.05, **p < 0.01, ***p < 0.001, ****p < 0.0001) was compared with each group and calculated by the one-way ANOVA (n = 3 mice per group).
