The red curve is a notional fit capturing the general shape of the radiation pattern. The sample sits at the center of the radiation pattern and is illuminated on the ϕ = 0° side of the ring. Data is measured from 0° to 180°. The mirror image is plotted as an aid to the eye. For the reference coordinate system see Fig. 1b.
