Natural Callus-like Tissue produces Vegetative Buds on the Leaves of the Monocotyledon Haemanthus cinnabarinus Decaisne (Amaryllidaceae)

Abstract

WE report on a seemingly unique situation in Haemanthus cinnabarinus in which adventitious buds, originating from an internal callus-like tissue, appear on the abaxial surface of attached or detached leaves. There is some indication that the callus may be induced by contact with the soil.
