Thrombus-mediated deprivation of oxygen and nutrients in the aortic wall stimulates neovascularization from the vasa vasorum in the aneurysm wall, inducing the recruitment of inflammatory cells that produce inflammatory mediators and leading to the weakening of the aneurysm wall and aneurysm rupture.
