We restrict our analysis to the western Amazon, where there is the highest overlap of species between ours and Coelho de Souza et al.37 dataset and to avoid biases due to soil/forest dynamic differences across Amazonian regions. Hydraulic safety margins for species occurring across multiple sites were averaged to yield one value per species.
