Schematic illustrating the LOW and HIGH postural threat conditions. At the LOW threat condition, participants stood at an elevation of 0.8 m. To minimize anxiety at this condition, an additional support surface (0.6 m × 1.52 m) was positioned in front of, and flush with, the platform edge, creating 60 cm of continuous support surface in front of the participant16. At the HIGH threat condition, participants stood at an elevation of 3.2 m and were positioned directly at the edge of the platform. At both threat conditions, participants wore a harness that was secured to the ceiling.
