From: Spatial correlation of 2D hard-tissue histology with 3D microCT scans through 3D printed phantoms
Overview of the improved histological workflow. After hardening, the resin block was scanned using a microCT resulting in a 3D digital twin volume of the sample. With the addition of three cone-shaped phantoms placed around the tissue specimen and embedded in resin the resulting image after sectioning was matched with the optimal fitting microCT plane. After sectioning, both the histological image and the microCT plane were fused using image registration algorithms.
