From: High-dose exposure to butylparaben impairs thyroid ultrastructure and function in rats

Figure 2

BuP caused thyroid enlargement and follicular damage in rats. (A) At the end of the animal experiment, the rats were euthanized and the thyroid glands were carefully dissected and weighed. The weight of the thyroid gland of the BuP-exposed rats was heavier than that of the control rats. (B) There was no significant difference in body weight between control rats and BuP-exposed rats. (C) The ratio of thyroid gland to body weight of BuP-exposed rats was higher than that of control rats. (D) In the control group, the normal thyroid follicles are uniform in size, the follicular wall is intact, and there is no inflammatory cell infiltration in the follicular stroma. (E) Thyroid follicles of BuP-exposed rats were inconsistent in size, follicle walls were incomplete, and there were many inflammatory cells infiltrating the follicular cavity and follicular stroma. n = 8, data are expressed as mean ± SD. Compared with control group, * P < 0.05. ns, not statistically significant. scale bar = 100 µm.
