Metamaterial-based injection molding for the cost-effective production of whole cuts

Recreating the structural complexity of meat has been a major challenge in developing alternative proteins. Here, the authors present two injectable metamaterials that mimic the multi-scale properties of fat and muscle, enabling a cost-effective process for injection molding of whole cuts.

Identification of human exT_reg cells as CD16⁺CD56⁺ cytotoxic CD4⁺ T cells

In inflammation, some regulatory T (T_reg) cells lose FoxP3 expression and become exT_reg cells. Ley and colleagues mapped mouse T_reg and exT_reg cell transcriptomes to a human peripheral blood mononuclear cell single-cell RNA-sequencing dataset with surface markers (CITE-seq) and identify human exT_reg cells as cytotoxic CD4⁺ T cells.

Discovery of widespread transcription initiation at microsatellites predictable by sequence-based deep neural network

Mammalian genomes are scattered with repetitive sequences, but their biology remains largely elusive. Here, the authors show that transcription can initiate from short tandem repetitive sequences, and that genetic variants linked to human diseases are preferentially found at repeats with high transcription initiation level.
