Direct C–H metallation of tetrahydrofuran and application in flow

The high stability of THF and rapid cleavage of α-anionic THF make the direct generation and use of α-anionic THF challenging. Now, a flow synthetic method is used to control the metallation of unstable α-anionic THF, allowing a range of functionalization reactions to be carried out directly on THF.

Precessional variation of monsoon-controlled silicate weathering caused steady atmospheric carbon dioxide consumption during glacial periods

Precipitation caused by precessional forcing controlled the intensity of silicate weathering in subtropical and tropical regions and helped maintain stable carbon dioxide consumption rates during glacial periods, according to an analysis of marine sediment geochemical data and model simulations.
