Surplus fatty acid synthesis increases oxidative stress in adipocytes and induces lipodystrophy

The physiological significance of low fatty acid synthesis in adipocytes remains unclear. Here, the authors show a protective role of this phenomenon by demonstrating that overproduction of fatty acids increases ROS production and results in adipocyte necroptosis and lipodystrophy.

Fatty acid metabolism underlies venetoclax resistance in acute myeloid leukemia stem cells

Jordan and colleagues show the role of increased fatty acid metabolism in AML stem cells, in both intrinsic and acquired resistance to combination venetoclax and azacitidine, and find that cells can be re-sensitized by inhibiting fatty acid oxidation.
