Real-time analysis of large-scale neuronal imaging enables closed-loop investigation of neural dynamics

A real-time analysis system was developed for an up to 500-megabyte-per-second image stream. This system can extract activities from up to 100,000 neurons in larval zebrafish brains and enables closed-loop perturbations of brain-wide neural dynamics at cellular resolution.

Circadian regulation of developmental synaptogenesis via the hypocretinergic system

Whether the circadian clock regulates early developmental processes is poorly understood. Here, the authors report the circadian rhythm of synapse formation during early brain development by using the retinotectal system of larval zebrafish as an in vivo model.

Stereotyped initiation of retinal waves by bipolar cells via presynaptic NMDA autoreceptors

Retinal waves are important for visual system development. However, the mechanism involved in their generation remains largely unknown. Here using in vivotwo-photon imaging the authors identify the presence of retinal waves in zebrafish larvae and find that they are initiated at bipolar cells via presynaptic NMDARs.

Rice APC/C^TE controls tillering by mediating the degradation of MONOCULM 1

The protein complex APC/C is an E3 ubiquitin ligase and its subunit Cdh1 determines substrate recognition. Linet al. show that the transcriptional regulator MONOCULM1 is a substrate of the rice homologue of Cdh1 and that APC/C-mediated degradation of MONOCULM1 controls rice tillering, a determinant of grain yield.

Myosin Vb controls biogenesis of post-Golgi Rab10 carriers during axon development

Polarized membrane addition during axon development requires post-Golgi Rab10 carriers, whose biogenesis mechanisms remain unknown. This work shows that specific interaction between Rab10 and MYO5B controls formation of the Rab10 carriers, and this process is essential for neuronal polarization.
