PJA1-mediated suppression of pyroptosis as a driver of docetaxel resistance in nasopharyngeal carcinoma

While chemotherapy may initially be effective in patient with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), resistance often develops. Here, the authors identify PJA1 as a driver of resistance to docetaxel via inhibition of GSDME-mediated proptosis and target this using a PJA1 inhibitor to restore sensitivity in preclinical models of NPC.

Polymorphisms in the integrin gene CD11bare associated with susceptibility to systemic lupus erythematosus, but how this relates to the function of this integrin has not been fully investigated. Here, the authors report that CD11b has a role in the intrinsic maintenance of autoreactive B cell tolerance by regulating BCR signalling.

Inducing trained immunity in pro-metastatic macrophages to control tumor metastasis

Trained immunity can manifest as a form of innate immune memory whereby innate immune cell responses are reprogrammed to respond differently to a variety of stimuli. Here, the authors show that lung macrophages can be trained by whole beta-glucan particle to enhance their ability to control tumor metastasis.

Joint analysis of three genome-wide association studies of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma in Chinese populations

Dongxin Lin, Philip Taylor, Li-Dong Wang and colleagues have now pooled three genome-wide association analyses of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, finding two new risk loci at genome-wide significance and an HLA class II locus of significance in high-risk populations. They reanalyze the strength of evidence for previously published risk loci.
