Real-time ultrafast oscilloscope with a relativistic electron bunch train

A travelling wave inside a metal slit can reveal its own waveform by probing deflecting motions of charged particles. Here, a real-time THz oscilloscope was demonstrated by utilizing the relativistic electrons and the subwavelength slit waveguide.

A seamless auxetic substrate with a negative Poisson’s ratio of −1

The inherent porosity of auxetic metamaterials challenge their applicability. Here, the authors introduce a seamless auxetic substrate film capable of achieving a negative Poisson’s ratio of −1 incorporating a rigid auxetic structure reinforced by glass-fabric, with surface-flattening soft elastomers applied as an image distortion-free display.

Misfolded polypeptides are selectively recognized and transported toward aggresomes by a CED complex

Misfolded polypeptide aggregates are actively transported to aggresomes, where they are degraded through aggrephagy. Here the authors show that these aggregates are selectively recognized by the CTIF–eEF1A1–DCTN1 (CED) complex and transported to aggresomes through the interactions of DCTN1 with dynein motors.

Deep learning STEM-EDX tomography of nanocrystals

Ultrabroadband absorptive refractory plasmonics for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reactions

The ultrabroadband absorptive refractory plasmonics is demonstrated with TiN and TiO₂ deposited onto an anodized aluminum oxide template. The absorber shows ultrabroadband absorption in the solar spectrum (400–2500 nm). Furthermore, the absorber shows an extended hot carrier lifetime and improved efficiency of photocatalytic hydrogen production. This novel ultrabroadband absorber has great potential to provide a sustainable and cost-effective route for hydrogen generation from solar energy.

Towards jitter-free ultrafast electron diffraction technology

An ultrafast electron diffraction facility with an overall temporal resolution of 31 fs root mean square is developed. Even for a charge as high as 0.6 pC, the electron bunch duration and timing jitter are 25 fs and less than 10 fs, respectively.

Hybrid crystalline-ITO/metal nanowire mesh transparent electrodes and their application for highly flexible perovskite solar cells

Flexible, thermally/chemically robust and high-performance transparent conducting electrode platform (c-ITO/metal NW-GFRHybrimer film) is fabricated using surface-embedded metal nanowire and crystalline indium tin oxide hybrid electrode. Highly flexible perovskite devices are fabricated on the c-ITO/metal NW-GFRHybrimer and show mechanically stable performances.
