Kyounghee Lee et al. show that a chromatin modifier HDA9 and a component of the Evening Complex, ELF3, cooperatively regulate the declining phase of Arabidopsis clock gene TOC1. This study illustrates how the circadian clock cooperates with histone deacetylase to regulate the circadian gene expression in Arabidopsis.
