Retinoblastoma from human stem cell-derived retinal organoids

Retinoblastoma is a heritable pediatric cancer driven by mutations in RB1. Here, the authors demonstrate the first patient derived model of retinoblastoma using iPSCs from patients with germline mutations in RB1.

MYCN amplification and ATRX mutations are incompatible in neuroblastoma

In most cancers, mutations that lead to oncogene activation and tumor suppressor inactivation synergize to promote tumorigenesis. However, in neuroblastomas, MYCN amplification and ATRX mutations are mutually exclusive and incompatible.

Reprogramming of mouse retinal neurons and standardized quantification of their differentiation in 3D retinal cultures

This protocol describes a method to reprogram mouse retinal neurons to pluripotent stem cells and provides a standardized scoring method, STEM-RET, to quantify the differentiation of these cells into mature retinal tissue using a 3D culture system.

Protist species richness and soil microbiome complexity increase towards climax vegetation in the Brazilian Cerrado

Araujo et al. investigate the soil microbiome across four major vegetation zones of the Brazilian Cerrado and find that protist taxon richness increases towards the tree-dominated climax vegetation. Their findings suggest that increased microbiome complexity might enhance system stability towards climax vegetation.
