Efficient roller-driven elastocaloric refrigerator

Elastocaloric cooling is an emerging cooling technology. This work develops a ternary TiNiCu alloy based elastocaloric prototype using a roller-driven mechanism for partial kinetic energy recovery. The prototype achieved a 125% improvement in the material coefficient of performance and a 78% work recovery efficiency.

Shearo-caloric effect enhances elastocaloric responses in polymer composites for solid-state cooling

In this work, inorganic nanofillers are added to SEBS polymers to induce shearo-caloric effects, enhancing the elastocaloric response. Authors design and demonstrate a double-unit cooling device with a work recovery efficiency of 56.3% and a system coefficient of performance of 8.3.

Lactate increases stemness of CD8 + T cells to augment anti-tumor immunity

Lactic acid from glycolytic metabolism of cancer cells has been associated with immune suppressive functions. Here authors show that lactate, when depart from the acidic protons, inhibits histone deacetylases in CD8 + T cells, which turns them into potent anti-tumour immune cells.

Tubeimoside I improves endothelial function in sepsis via activation of SIRT3

The authors show that intraperitoneal injection of tubeimoside I (TBM) alleviates the endothelial dysfunction caused by sepsis. Their results suggest that TBM functions by reducing oxidative stress and apoptosis via SIRT3, an NAD-dependent deacetylase. TBM is therefore a promising new therapeutic agent against sepsis-induced endothelial dysfunction.
