Observation of dark states in a superconductor diamond quantum hybrid system

Recently, a sharp resonance was observed in the spectrum of a flux-qubit nitrogen-vacancy-centre hybrid quantum system that is much narrower than that of either the flux qubit or the spin ensemble. Zhu et al.investigate this resonance and find evidence of a coherently driven collective dark state.

Histone H3.3 sub-variant H3mm7 is required for normal skeletal muscle regeneration

Incorporation of histone H3 variant H3.3 into chromatin regulates transcription. Here the authors find that H3.3 sub-variant H3mm7 is required for skeletal muscle regeneration and that H3mm7 nucleosomes are unstable and exhibit higher mobility, with H3mm7 promoting open chromatin around promoters.

Transfer learning efficiently maps bone marrow cell types from mouse to human using single-cell RNA sequencing

Patrick Stumpf et al. use a machine learning technique called transfer learning to compare bone marrow cell-type information between mice and humans, based on single-cell RNA-seq data. Using their model, they identify aspects of cellular expression profiles that transfer and those that don’t, which can be used to understand when mouse models of human disease are appropriate.
