Gray whales are restricted to the North Pacific (A). Humpback whales are found throughout the world's oceans (B). Three species of right whales are found in the North Pacific, North Atlantic, and Southern Oceans (C). The movement of nutrients from high-latitude feeding grounds to lower-latitude winter and calving grounds provides an important resource subsidy.
