The dynamics of plasmon-induced hot carrier creation in colloidal gold

This study presents real-time observation of plasmon-driven hot carrier creation. Auger heating is operative in enhancing carrier energy beyond single-photon excitation. These findings open new avenues in plasmonic energy conversion and photocatalysis.

Ultrafast hot-hole injection modifies hot-electron dynamics in Au/p-GaN heterostructures

Photo-excited gold nanoparticles are shown to provide ultrafast and efficient hot-hole injection to the valence band of p-type GaN, substantially altering hot-electron dynamics in the nanoparticles and forming a basis to design hot-hole-based optoelectronics.

Regulatory sites for splicing in human basal ganglia are enriched for disease-relevant information

Regulation of gene expression and splicing are thought to be tissue-specific. Here, the authors obtain genomic and transcriptomic data from putamen and substantia nigra of 117 neurologically healthy human brains and find that splicing eQTLs are enriched for neuron-specific regulatory information.

This paper analyses the longest sediment flows measured in action on Earth. These seabed flows were caused by floods and spring tides, and flushed prodigious sediment and carbon volumes into the deep sea, as they accelerated for a thousand kilometres.

Plexins function in epithelial repair in both Drosophila and zebrafish

Plexins are semaphorin receptors and are well known for their roles in neuronal pathfinding. Here the authors describe a role for Plexin A in healing damaged epithelia in Drosophila and zebrafish. In Drosophila, Plexin A inhibits the GTPase Rap1 to allow epithelial remodelling to facilitate wound repair.

Exploiting hot electrons from a plasmon nanohybrid system for the photoelectroreduction of CO₂

There are numerous examples of plasmonic photothermal catalytic reactions, but the participation of hot carriers remains a subject of vigorous debate. Here, the authors construct a plasmonic nanohybrid system that is unstable above 580 K to show that hot electrons are the main culprit in the photoelectrocatalytic reduction of CO₂ to CO.
