Constitutive activation mechanism of a class C GPCR

Using cryo-EM, authors reveal the structure and activation mechanism of GPR156, a class C orphan GPCR implicated in sound detection. They find that GPR156 is a transducer for phospholipid signaling and provide insights into the basis for its constitutive activation.

Non-volatile Fermi level tuning for the control of spin-charge conversion at room temperature

Spin-to-charge conversion is the process through with a spin current is converted into charge current. It, along with its inverse effect, represents an essential building block for spintronics devices. Here, Choi et al. demonstrate non-volatile control of spin-to-charge conversion in a ferroelectric and graphene based heterostructure.

A scalable molecule-based magnetic thin film for spin-thermoelectric energy conversion

Spin-thermoelectrics have great promise for waste heat conversion, however scaling up is challenging for device using standard magnetic insulators. Here, Oh et al demonstrate the molecular-magnet, Prussian blue analogues as a viable candidate for spin-thermoelectrics.

Gate-tunable giant nonreciprocal charge transport in noncentrosymmetric oxide interfaces

Complex oxide heterostructures can host two-dimensional electron systems with better properties than bulk materials. Choe et al. show that the combination of the Rashba spin-orbit interaction and Fermi energy at LAO/STO interfaces gives a larger nonreciprocal response than in bulk polar conductors.
