  • Understanding the dynamic evolution of heterogeneous catalysts is crucial yet challenging. This work uncovers the transformation of amorphous PtIn clusters into ultrafine Pt3In intermetallics, driven by propylene during propane dehydrogenation, highlighting the pivotal role of product-induced changes in revealing the true active sites.

  • An isolation strategy is presented to improve the stability of metal nanoparticles by grafting oxide nano-islands between the support and the nanoparticles. This enhances sintering resistance, with the mean size of the nanoparticles maintained at 1.4 nm after 400 h of catalytic dry reforming of methane.

  • The impact of facets on Fischer-Tropsch synthesis has primarily been explored through theoretical studies or on single-crystal surfaces, lacking experimental data on practical catalysts. Here, the authors provide experimental evidence of the facet sensitivity of iron carbides during syngas conversion by creating {202} and {112} χ-Fe5C2 facets.

  • CO electroreduction is a promising carbonate-free approach to produce ethylene, but suffers from limited selectivity and low energy efficiency. By modifying copper with a strong electron acceptor, 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane, the water dissociation step is accelerated, leading to excellent ethylene selectivity and full-cell energy efficiency in CO electroreduction.

  • While single-atom catalysts offer well-defined structures, the homogeneity of the active sites is determined by localized coordination environments. Here, authors anchor Ir single atoms onto different sites on CoOOH and show how their distinct coordinations activate oxygen-evolving electrocatalysis

  • Engineering Cu to achieve high catalytic selectivity towards carbon monoxide at high current density is challenging. Here, the authors report an Cu-Sb single-atom alloy catalyst that catalyzes CO2 reduction at a current density of 500 mA cm−2 with CO FE of ca. 91%.
